Aunt's Funeral

I went to my aunt's funeral on Thursday. It was about an hours drive away. I left the night before and stayed with family at the motel. I found out some interesting things.

While at the funeral I found that I am the rock that everyone stands on. I was the guy you see at funerals that stands there with a straight look on his face, whispers in everyones ear to try and make them fell better. My uncle walked over and hugged me and began to cry. This just doesn't happen with the men in my family. If you think of the stereotypical masculine man, doesn't cry, works hard, and protects his family at all costs, thats the men in my family. Trying to be the macho guy is hard work.

I also learned my dad, contrary to popular belief, does cry but doesn't let anyone know. He tried to hide it after I hugged him to go back to my internship at the felony probation office. Then I traveled back to my internship and learned that probationers are some of the most absent minded people. They keep messing up on the same thing, not showing up to meetings, drinking, or returning to drug use. I sometimes just want to hit them with a bat a say, "now did you learn something from that?" If not, take 'em out back and shoot them. Less paperwork and a better stress relief.

being the rock isn't always easy.

I'm glad to have you around. Even rocks need a place to go sometime.

My condolences on your aunt. Yeah, it sucks to be the rock sometimes...but the alternative is being the helpless one...

Hi VM, I don't see my message of condolence which I left on your blog before the game.

Please know that I do wish you and yours a speedy healing from your loss, where you are able to remember and celebrate the wonderful moments shared rather than the absence.

I hope in that light you are able to have a wonderful weekend.

Condolences offered in your loss.

...as far as the probationers, don't believe it is all absent-mindedness. Most of them have no intention of changing any time soon. Sadly.
